Professor the Hon. Arthur Li Kwok Cheung, GBM, GBS, JP
Professor Arthur K C Li is Emeritus Professor of Surgery, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and was the founding Chairman of the Department of Surgery CUHK and Chairman of the Surgical Services at the Prince of Wales Hospital. He also served as Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of CUHK and then as its Vice-Chancellor (President). He subsequently served as Secretary for Education and Manpower of Hong Kong SAR Government.
The Royal College of Surgeons of England appointed Professor Li to the Court of Patrons, its highest honor, and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh bestowed him with its President’s Gold Medal and he is a Regent of the College. He is an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, UK; the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland; the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow; the American College of Surgeons, the American Surgical Association and the Royal College of Physicians of London.
Professor Li was awarded Honorary Doctorate of Science (University of Hull, UK); Honorary Doctorate of Letters (Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, HKSAR); Honorary Doctorate (Soka University, Japan); Honorary Doctorate of Laws (University of the West of England UK) and Honorary Doctorate of Law (The Chinese University of Hong Kong, HKSAR). He is also Honorary Doctorate of Science (Medicine) (University College London, UK) and Hon Honorary Doctorate of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Professor Li was awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star and the Grand Bauhinia Medal by The Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
Professor Li is now a member of the Executive Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
Professor Li is currently Non-Executive Director and Deputy Chairman of The Bank of East Asia; an Independent Non-Executive Director of Shangri-La Asia Limited; Non-Executive Director of Greater Bay Airlines Co Ltd.
Professor Li is also a member of the Basic Law Committee of the Standing Committee of the National People Congress.
Professor Li recently completed his term as Council Chairman of The University of Hong Kong.
